How it Began

I started working in the financial industry in 2007, which seems like a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. My 5-year mission: to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and civilizations. To boldly go where no insurance guy had gone before. But really, I started off in the Medicare field, and quickly learned several things. The first thing I found was that very few people had any idea how insurance (and most aspects of finance) actually worked. I couldn’t blame them. None of us were ever really taught anything about this in school. We didn’t have a “Finance” class the way we did History, Social Studies, Algebra, or English classes. Looking back, I still believe this is a missing part of our overall education. This is my biggest motivating factor: I will make the insurance and finance, each separate aspect, much easier to understand, and empower my readers with knowledge so that they can confidently make their own choices when it comes time.

The second thing I found out was that not every company was created the same. Some offered more value for the money. What I realized that when I am working with someone, I have to be able to provide for them the best overall valuable possible. That couldn’t happen if I was working directly for one major insurance company. In order to offer the people I was working with the best price and value, I had to be able to choose from nearly every company and plan available on the market. This meant that I had to be independent. As a Broker, I could then select whichever policy or solution was the best fit, and I wasn’t stuck with simply selling the product line of any one or two companies.
